The Los Angeles Chargers are a generally predictable team when it comes to NFL mock drafts this year.
It’s a simple formula—the Chargers need to help Justin Herbert by finding weapons. Head coach Jim Harbaugh’s deep Michigan Wolverine connections make it easy. If it’s not tight end Colston Loveland from the program, it’s usually cornerback Will Johnson or defensive lineman Mason Graham.

But what if AI gets put in charge of a mock draft?
USA Today’s Jacob Camenker asked that very question of Meta AI and the chatbot threw out the Chargers picking Boston College edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku:
“Ezeiruaku was productive in his final season at Boston College, generating 16.5 sacks. Meta believes this production will carry over to the NFL level and praised the 21-year-old for his "varied pass-rush moves." He could be an ideal long-term replacement for Khalil Mack so this fit can't be ruled out.”

Ezeiruaku isn’t the worst possible outcome by any means. But the Chargers paid up big to bring back Khalil Mack in free agency and love what they have in the upstart Tuli Tuipulotu.
Those Chargers might be better off prioritizing the offensive line in front of Herbert or getting him weapons to create better separation. Beyond Tyler Conklin at tight end and a retread with Mike Williams, the team has grossly underwhelmed in beefing up the offense this offseason.
Ezeiruaku’s draft stock is all over the place, too, with NFL.com writing that he might be a good starter within two years and Bleacher Report grading him as a third-round pick, as just two examples.
Given the above, maybe the onslaught of Mel Kiper Jr. mock drafts and general predictable nature of them isn’t so bad after all, right?
