I can’t say I have a lot of experience painting my nails, but I imagine there are times when you want your nails to match the color of the outfit you’re wearing.

Now, a new app takes the guesswork out of finding that perfect color. It’s called ShadeScout Nails, and it uses the camera in your smartphone and image recognition to instantly find a matching color.

All you do is load up the app and aim the camera at the color you want to match – whether it’s on your outfit, jewelry or in a magazine photo. The app recognizes the shade and spits out several matching nail polish colors from manufacturers, big and small.CRTSuLkUAAATJu1

Calabasas based FaceCake Marketing Technologies makes the app. They say it has information on polish from more than 25 major and boutique nail brands including OPI, Nonie Creme Colour Prevails, Londontown and Formula X.

You can even instantly see what your nails would look like with the color on them and share that picture with friends or on social media.

Right now ShadeScout Nails is only available on iOS. You can download it here.

ShadeScout also makes a similar app for matching cosmetics which is available on Android and iOS.
