This week’s Republican National Convention, where former President Donald Trump is expected to formally become the party’s presidential nominee, will continue with heightened security after Saturday’s assassination attempt against the former president.
The event takes place between Monday and Thursday at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend, including dozens of high-profile Republicans.
Security will be heightened at the event following the deadly shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday. While Trump escaped with just a wound to his right ear, a rally attendee was killed, along with the alleged shooter.
KTLA’s Gene Kang reported on Sunday that the Secret Service will bring a “all hands on deck” approach to the convention in downtown Milwaukee, partnering with the city’s police force to prevent any additional attacks.
There have been no credible threats made toward the convention.
As of Sunday morning, the security situation at the convention has been described by officials as “constantly evolving.”
Trump still plans to make remarks at the convention as the presumptive nominee. Also on the speaker list included Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, businessman and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and right-wing media pundit Tucker Carlson.
While no overarching changes have been made to the event itself in light of the shooting, it’s almost certain that the planned speeches will take a new tone.
