ATTLEBORO, Mass (KTLA) — Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez was indicted by a grand jury Thursday for first-degree murder in the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.

The former New England Patriots tight end was in court when the indictment was handed down.  He has been in custody since his arrest on June 26.

Prosecutors allege Hernandez orchestrated Lloyd’s death with the help of two other men on June 17.

Lloyd’s his body was found later that day in an industrial park near Hernandez’s home.

Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee at the time of his death.

The 23-year-old Hernandez was also indicted on five weapons charges.

He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

If convicted of first degree murder, Hernandez faced a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
