A woman was transported to a hospital with a small, dead shark attached to her arm after she was bitten Sunday afternoon at a beach in Boca Raton, Florida, officials said.

A 911 caller reported the incident shortly before 1:30 p.m., prompting a response from Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services personnel, the agency said in a statement.

Firefighter-paramedics arrived at a lifeguard tower in the 1400 block of North Ocean Boulevard, where they found the 23-year-old woman with a 2-foot-long nurse shark attached to her right forearm, according to the fire department. The shark had been killed before emergency responders reached the scene, the news release said.

Photos from the location show a man holding both the seated woman’s arm and the shark as a Rescue Services captain renders aid.

The patient was taken to the hospital in stable condition, the statement said.
