Colorado police on Thursday identified the suspect accused of stabbing a 7-month-pregnant woman in the stomach and cutting the fetus from her womb after the victim answered a Craigslist ad for baby clothes, according to KTLA sister station KDVR.
Dynel Lane, 34, was arrested the previous day after going to a local hospital with the unborn child and telling a worker she had a miscarriage, police told the Denver-area television station.
The baby did not survive.

The 26-year-old victim underwent surgery and was in the hospital recovering from the attack, which occurred mid-afternoon Wednesday at a residence in the 1600 block of Green Place, according to police.
“Officers arrived on scene and could hear a female calling for help inside the home. Officers entered the home and located a female who had been beaten and stabbed in the stomach,” Longmont police said.
The victim had managed to call 911 and report the stabbing herself, according to KDVR.
“She cut me. … I’m pregnant,” she could be heard telling the dispatcher in the audio recording obtained by the TV station.

The station reported that the victim had gone to the suspect’s house to purchase baby clothes from ad she had found through the website Craigslist.
“The suspect and victim were not known to each other prior to this incident,” police said.

After the attack, Lane and the baby were taken to the hospital by her husband. It was not immediately clear whether he was inside the home when the attack occurred, and he has not been arrested, according to police.
Lane was booked on several felony charges including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse knowingly/reckless resulting in death.
The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office was working to determine which charges would be filed against Lane.
“The issues involving an unborn child are complicated under Colorado law,” Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett told the station. “In most circumstances, if a child was not actually born alive, then homicide charges are not possible.”
