(WJW) — Chipotle, the popular fast-casual Mexican grill, is popping up in more and more cities.

At last count, the franchise has more than 3,300 locations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. But even that level of Chipotle abundance isn’t enough for some.

Texans are still requesting more locations, according to Chipotle. The state’s residents request new Chipotle restaurants more than any other state, a company spokesperson told Nexstar.

The Lone Star State already has 281 Chipotles. Only one state has more; California reports 457 locations.

Ohio has a disproportionately high number of Chipotle locations with 230 restaurants. Ohio customers eat more chips than those in any other state, Chipotle said.

Columbus, Ohio, alone has 21 locations. According to the restaurant’s website, that’s more Chipotles than almost any other city in the U.S. (and world!) The city with the most Chipotle locations is New York with 57, then Chicago with 40. Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. have 24. Phoenix and Brooklyn tie Columbus with 21.

Ohio has almost more Chipotle locations than any other state with 230 restaurants. Only two states have more: California (457) and Texas (281.)

And if you’re wondering — well, where did Chipotle first open and get its start? It’s not Ohio, California, or Texas. According to a Bloomberg report, Chipotle was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1993 — which now has a mere 15 locations.

In nearby Boulder, Colorado, students eat more Chipotle than any other college town, the company said. Nebraskans order the most steak, Oregonians the most carnitas, and Kansans the most barbacoa. Californians fulfill the avocado-loving stereotype by ordering the most guacamole.

According to Chipotle, the company is ranked on the Fortune 500 and is recognized on the 2023 list for Fortune’s Most Admired Companies and Time Magazine’s Most Influential Companies.
