You can catch Pokemon almost anywhere while playing “Pokemon Go,” but the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum would really like people to stop doing it inside the museum’s Washington, D.C., building.
The Museum is a “Pokestop” where players can get free in-game items. There are actually three different Pokestops associated with various parts of the museum, according to the Washington Post.
The location choices seem disrespectful, especially in more solemn parts of the complex like the Hall of Remembrance, museum communications director Andrew Hollinger told the Post.
“We are trying to find out if we can get the museum excluded from the game,” Hollinger said.
A photo that’s been circulated online shows a Pokemon creature that emits poisonous gas floating in front of an auditorium that showcases the memories of those who survived Nazi gas chambers, the Post reported. It wasn’t clear if the image was a hoax, according to the Post.
The Post reported there appeared to be “plenty of people” distracted by the game inside the museum on Monday.
A 30-year-old visiting from North Carolina with a group of friends who had tickets for a museum tour told the Post he was excited to catch a Pokemon character called Krabby.
“It’s not like we came here to play,” a 37-year-old member of the North Carolinian’s group told the Post. “But gotta catch ’em all.”
