Officials have not positively identified the body, but have informed missing boy’s family of the discovery, a spokesman for the Aurora Police Department stated during a news conference.

David Wayne Puckett was reported missing by family members when he disappeared from his home in the 15700 block of East Amherst Place at about 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Although there was no initial indication Puckett had been abducted, officials issued an Amber Alert Monday in hopes of finding the child.

“Due to the passage of time, the impending weather, and out of an abundance of caution and to leave no stone unturned, CBI has issued an Amber Alert today at approximately 2:40 p.m.,” the Police Department stated on Facebook.

A $10,000 reward had also been offered in the case.

A search dog started “indicating” around the pond Monday and a search crew was sent into the water Tuesday, the spokesman said.

A member of the crew found the child’s body in the water, but it would be a while before officials could identify the person, the spokesman said.

“Until there is a positive identification on the victim, the search for David will continue,” the Police Department stated on Facebook.

Puckett is 4 feet tall and weighs 55 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing an Army style tan jacket, green camouflage pants and black boots with orange trim.

Investigators were treating the pond as a crime scene until they could determine what happened the child that was found in the water, the spokesman said.

Puckett’s family has asked for privacy.
