A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the death of a beloved Valencia teacher in a hit-and-run crash earlier this year, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s officials announced Monday.

Lucas Guidroz, of Canyon Country, pleaded no contest gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run driving resulting in death for the May 25 crash.

Guidroz fatally struck Rodrick T. Bennett, 53, as the victim was riding his bicycle on Placerita Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.

Guidroz turned himself in to authorities two days later.

Bennett was a math and music teacher at Valencia’s Arroyo Seco Junior High School.
