A pedestrian is dead after a hit-and-run collision in the Vermont Vista neighborhood of South Los Angeles Thursday night.

The pedestrian, a man believed to be about 50 years old, was struck while lying in the roadway of a residential area in the 600 block of West Century Boulevard at about 9 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police and Fire departments.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Investigators believe the vehicle that ran over him was a dark-colored pickup truck.
