A 52-year-old woman suspected of trying to abduct two young children within a half-hour period in Glendale this week was arrested early Friday morning, police announced.

Lisa Arnold was taken into custody about 2:30 a.m., the Glendale Police Department said in a news release.

She was booked at the department shortly after 3:15 a.m., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate records. Her bail was set at $300,000.

Glendale police declined to release a booking photo of the suspect, citing the ongoing investigation.

Arnold’s arrest comes two days after the incidents, which occurred in the 5 o’clock hour Wednesday and within a mile of each other in south Glendale.

In each case, the kids were approached and picked up by an individual who got out of a car and told them they were “cute.” The would-be kidnapper ended up fleeing each scene after being physically confronted by the children’s mothers.

The kids were unharmed.

The first incident occurred around 5:11 p.m. at the intersection of Chevy Chase Drive and Adams Street. A mother was walking her 14-month-old in a stroller when a woman approached and grabbed the child, according to a police news release.

After a struggle, the mother was able to get her child back, while the other woman ran into her car and drove away, according to the release.

An 8-year-old boy reported the second kidnapping attempt, which took place around 5:35 p.m. near John Marshall Elementary School at Chevy Chase Drive and Broadway, police said.

The boy told a 911 operator that someone tried to take his 2-year-old brother, the release said. He described the individual as a man “dressed like a woman.”

The boys’ mother, who was standing nearby, interrupted the kidnapping and hit the attacker’s hand, prompting the individual to put the toddler down and flee, according to Sgt. Robert William with the Glendale Police Department.

Police said Wednesday they believed the cases were linked.

“We’re fairly confident it is the same suspect,” William said. “This is not something that happens regularly in Glendale.”

Surveillance video obtained by KTLA Thursday appeared to show the first attempted abduction, though the confrontation was partially obscured by a car.

The grainy footage shows a person approaching a mother as she stands on the sidewalk, bending down over the mother’s stroller. After a second, the mother appears to push the person’s hands away, and the individual leaves.

An active investigation is ongoing, and detectives are still trying to determine a motive.

Arnold is scheduled to appear in Glendale Municipal Court on Tuesday, according to jail records.
