A woman in custody after fatally shooting a man outside a Ralphs grocery store in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood Wednesday, Los Angeles police said.

The shooting was reported around 12:35 p.m. at the supermarket’s location on the corner of Wilshire and Hauser boulevard, said Officer Jeff Lee, an L.A. Police Department spokesperson. Police later described the location as Wilshire at Ridgely Drive, which is one block east of Hauser.

Officers found the victim, a man in his 40s, suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, LAPD Detective Sean Kinchla said.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed police had sectioned off part of Hauser Boulevard with crime tape and were investigating a scene there.

Police searched for hours for the woman accused in the shooting, and she was taken into custody later Wednesday, officials said.

Kinchla said it appears both she and the victim may have been homeless.

A motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but it appears a dispute may have led up to the gunfire, the detective said.

Investigators are searching for witnesses and any video surveillance that may exist. Anyone with information can contact LAPD at 213-382-9470.
