Two teens have been arrested on suspicion of robbery in Azusa after allegedly stealing the cellphone of a female they met through the website Craigslist, police said Sunday.
The victim had arranged to meet one of the females in the 800 block of North Azusa Avenue (map) to sell the cellphone on Thursday, according to a news release from the Azusa Police Department.
When she arrived, the victim spoke with the potential buyer, who was seated in the vehicle along with another occupant.
While examining the cellphone prior to completing the purchase, the driver quickly accelerated the vehicle, according to the release. The victim, meanwhile, tried to grab her phone back while the car was moving, but ended up being dragged about 40 to 50 feet on the street.
She suffered moderate injuries, but was able to contact police to report the robbery at 9 p.m., the release stated.
Two days later, Azusa police detectives were able to locate the vehicle with the suspects seated inside.
Police arrested 19-year-old Taquala Woods of Columbus, Ohio, and 18-year-old Brianna Dixon of Honolulu, Hawaii, after they allegedly admitted to the incident, according to the release.
Both women were booked and being held on $50,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
Woods was scheduled to make her first court appearance on Wednesday, while Dixon’s was scheduled for Tuesday, the inmate records showed.
