A 19-year-old woman who was attending a music festival in South El Monte over the weekend died on Monday from a suspected drug overdose, authorities said.

The teen went to a health tent at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday during the second day of the HARD Summer 2014 event held at the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, according to Capt. Holly Perez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

She was later taken from the tent to an area hospital where she died at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday, possibly from a drug overdose, according to Perez.

The woman was identified as Emily Tran, by Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, who stated that an autopsy was pending.

Tran’s death was reported as a possible accident and coroner’s officials were looking into whether drugs were involved, Winter stated.

There were no other reported drug overdoses during the weekend’s events, according to Perez, who added that there were minimal problems, in part due to several layers of security in place at the music festival.

Attendees were given a chance to dump narcotics and any illegal items before entering Whittier Narrows, Perez said.
