A man was fatally shot and a woman was wounded in a car-to-car shooting that occurred as their vehicle was being followed through a Venice neighborhood, police said.

The incident began about 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Brooks and 6th avenues.

The victim was being chased when several shots came from the pursuing vehicle, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. John Radtke said.

Video shows two vehicles traveling side-by-side for a moment before the victims’ vehicle hits a curb and overturns in front of a home.

Officers arrived to find that one victim, described as an 18-year-old man, had been shot multiple times. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, Radtke said.

A woman in the vehicle, who police said was around 21 years old, was also shot multiple times and taken to a local hospital for treatment. She was said to be in serious condition.

Police are searching for the shooter’s vehicle, possibly a white Infiniti sedan, that may have traffic collision damage, Radtke said.

It was unclear if there was more than one person in the shooter’s vehicle.

Investigators did not know the motive for the shooting.
