Three people were being detained Friday after a car-to-car shooting in Palmdale left a teenage girl hospitalized in critical condition.

Deputies were called to the 37800 block of Melton Avenue around 12 p.m. regarding a “gunshot victim,” according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When they arrived, deputies learned that a car-to-car-shooting had occurred near 17th Street East and Avenue R wounding at least two people, the release stated.

One of those hit was a teenage girl who was sitting in the front passenger’s seat, according to the release. The girl, described as a Hispanic teenager, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, said Grace Medrano with the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.

Several hours later, a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting was stopped by deputies near Palmdale Boulevard and 10th Street East, the release stated.

The three people inside the vehicle were being detained pending an investigation.

The condition of the second victim was not released.

It was not known if the shooting was gang-related.
