A teacher who sexually assaulted a Palmdale high school student was sentenced Thursday to three years in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Aaron Joseph Alvidrez, a 29-year-old former substitute teacher at Highland High School, pleaded no contest Thursday to two felony counts of sodomy of a person under 18 and meeting a minor for lewd purposes, the DA stated in a news release.

The 17-year-old victim was assaulted in a classroom and in Alvidrez’s vehicle between Sept. 22 and Oct. 3, 2014, prosecutors said.

The student, who the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department previously said was enrolled in a special needs program, first reported the abuse in October.

Alvidrez, of Lancaster, was charged on Oct. 21, 2014, and sentenced Thursday to three years in state prison.

In addition, Alvidrez was ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender and to stay away from the victim for 10 years.
