Los Angeles police are investigating after a man robbed someone of $47,000 in cash and fired several shots at the victim’s car, causing multiple traffic collisions in Tarzana on Wednesday.
Officers received a call of an armed robbery around 5:26 p.m. in the 18400 block of Collins Street.
There, they learned that the victim had the money out in open on his way to buy a car, according to Sgt. Jim Harper of the LAPD. Someone allegedly saw the cash and tipped off the suspect.
The man approached the victim and forced them and a witness from a car before searching the vehicle and taking the $47,000, police said.
He then tried to flee the scene, but the victim and the witness got back into their vehicle and began following the man, according to the LAPD.
The suspect fired several rounds at the victim, striking their car and his own vehicle. The shootout caused six separate traffic accidents, according to police.
The man managed to get away in his vehicle before abandoning his car on Hatteras Street, police said. Nobody was injured in the shooting.
The robber was last seen jumping over a fence near the scene. The investigation into the robbery and shooting is ongoing, police said.
