Authorities have located the body of a male who went swimming with friends at Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles in the middle of the night and apparently drowned.

Los Angeles County lifeguards were called to the beach, located just south of Playa del Rey, around 1 a.m. Wednesday after the victim’s friends called 9-1-1 to say he went under a wave and failed to resurface, authorities told KTLA.

Lifeguards were assisted by boats and helicopters as they searched for the victim throughout the morning.

His body was found at about 7:30 a.m. roughly 300 yards north of where he was last seen, the Fire Department said.

His name and age were not immediately released.

Lifeguards urge the public to avoid swimming at night when lifeguards are not on duty.
