Sweetgreen, a Los Angeles-based fast-casual chain salad chain, has introduced new menu items exclusively available at select restaurants in L.A. County and Boston, Massachusetts.

Starting Feb. 8, the new Caramelized Garlic Steak will be featured in three new chef-crafted menu options: the Caramelized Garlic Steak protein plate, the Steakhouse Chopped bowl and the Steak Kale Caesar salad.

“The key ingredient in our test menu is the premium, super-tender tri-tip steak that we toss with perfectly caramelized, house-roasted garlic and onions. Our new Caramelized Garlic Steak will take any of our plates, bowls, and salads to the next level.”  chef Chad Brauze, Head of Culinary at Sweetgreen, said in a statement.

Guests can try the new menu items at Sweetgreen locations in La Brea and Century City. The new item will also be exclusively sold at 22 restaurants across Boston.

Like other restaurant chains, Sweetgreen recently began testing automated food-preparing technology, also known as the “Infinite Kitchen,” which can prep salads and bowls.

Nicolas Jammet, the company’s co-founder and chief concept officer, told the Orange County Register that the machine doesn’t cook anything but instead handles line work.

“We still have folks doing all the chopping, cutting and stuff like that,” Jammet said.

A new Sweetgreen location in Huntington Beach is home to the new tech.

Sweetgreen was founded in 2007 by three college students “who were simply looking for a healthier way to eat,” its website stated. The first Sweetgreen location opened in Washington, D.C.

The company went public in 2021 but has yet to turn a profit since, according to multiple media reports.
