A suspected street-racing crash in Playa Vista left one person dead early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The high-speed collision occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on the eastbound 90 Freeway, near South Centinela Avenue (map), according to the California Highway Patrol.

An unidentified male driver lost control of his vehicle, struck the center divider and was ejected from the car, the CHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three of the four eastbound lanes were temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the scene.

News video showed a heavily damaged four-door BMW at the crash site. The car’s air bag had apparently deployed upon impact.

A witness told investigators the driver of the BMW was racing against another driver before the collision. No description of a second vehicle was given.

An investigation is underway.
