A suspect in the deadly shooting of a 27-year-old man at on Ontario Park just over two weeks ago has been identified and is already in custody in San Diego County in connection with a separate case, police announced Friday.

Marquis Brooks, 20, of Ontario, is accused of fatally shooting Michael Carreno of Ontario just before 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 at De Anza Park, 1405 S. Fern Ave., the Ontario Police Department said in a written statement.

He is already behind bars in San Diego County on an unrelated charge, police said.

“Brooks is awaiting transfer to San Bernardino County where he will be booked on the charge of murder with a gang enhancement,” according to the police statement.

Brooks was arrested in San Diego County Thursday, San Diego county booking records show. It was not clear Friday what crime or crimes he’s accused of in that county.
