A 40-year-old substitute teacher was arrested after he was allegedly caught engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old female in a parked BMW, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the Hesperia Police Department announced on Wednesday.

The discovery was made while a sheriff’s deputy was conducting a suspicious vehicle check in the area of Ivy Avenue and Alder Street (map) in Hesperia early Sunday, a joint news release from the departments stated.

The man, later identified as 40-year-old Rakshannah Ranney of Apple Valley, and the female juvenile were taken to the sheriff’s station in Hesperia, according to the release.

After further investigation, authorities said that Ranney, a substitute teacher for the Adelanto School District, and the victim were allegedly involved in “an ongoing sexual relationship,” the release stated.

Investigators believed Ranney met the teen on the Internet.

Ranney was arrested and booked on suspicion of lewd lascivious acts by force resulting in psychological harm to the victim, unlawful sex with a minor and burglary, according to the release. His bail was set at $125,000.
