Students Friday morning held a protest at Mayfair High School in Lakewood, where a noose was found hanging from a tree earlier this week before racial slurs were spray-painted on walls at rival Bellflower High School.
The noose was discovered Wednesday at Mayfair High, whose football team played against Bellflower High’s team last week.
Racist language was written on walls at the Bellflower campus sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, and was quickly painted over, said Principal Michael Lundgren, adding that he did not believe students at the school were responsible for the graffiti.
“It was across the whole entire wall, all around the theater,” said senior Jewel Romero, who said the writing as “disrespectful.”
She described the tagger or taggers as “ignorant” and “arrogant.”
Both incidents were being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. No arrests have been made.
