Street racing was being blamed for a crash in Long Beach that left one man dead and a second hospitalized Monday night.

Two cars were racing on Ocean Avenue (map) in Long Beach around 10:15 p.m. when one of the cars crashed into a tree near Orizaba Avenue, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk.

The two men inside the vehicle were ejected upon impact, according to Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy A. Pratt.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene; the second was transported to the hospital in serious condition, Fisk said.
