While the seaside cliffs in the affluent city of Malibu are among California’s most iconic sights, the end of the region’s massive storms on Wednesday brought trouble in the form of slides and road closures.

A series of mudslides occurred in the form of a parting gift from the recent storms, which began to reach their conclusion on Wednesday morning throughout Southern California. Slides were reported on Pacific Coast Highway and on Corral Canyon Road, forcing road closures lasting for an undisclosed amount of time.

The road closures cut off dense sections of the city.

Pepperdine University announced in a social media post that in-person classes on the Malibu campus would be canceled Wednesday amid the closures. On-campus operations would be limited, as access to the campus was complicated by the Corral Canyon Road closure, which was expected to last all day.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District announced that all schools would remain open Wednesday but bus services weren’t running to Malibu High and Middle Schools.
