A late-night attack is being investigated as part of yet another day of violence connected to the Los Angeles Metro system Monday.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a bus stop in the area of West Olympic Boulevard and South La Brea Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Monday, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed.
The victim was located at the scene suffering from lacerations and was taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, police said.
One person was taken into custody but police have not provided the identity of the suspect.
The stabbing comes on the heels of a bus driver being attacked in downtown Los Angeles earlier in the day.
“A female suspect aggressively entered the bus and began arguing with the bus operator,” an LAPD news release stated. “During the altercation, the suspect forcefully removed the bus operator’s prescription eyeglasses and exited the bus.”
The driver followed the woman off the bus and got her glasses back following a second altercation but police said they were broken and the operator suffered a minor injury during the encounter.
Metro released the following statement to KTLA in response to the attack:
“Metro is angered that yet again a member of our community chose to assault and steal from one of our essential bus operators. Our employees deserve a safe workplace and our customers deserve a safe ride, and we are accelerating our work to prevent crime on our system.”
Monday’s violent incidents come during a series of violent attacks on Metro operators and passengers, including a grandmother who was fatally stabbed and another man who was shot and killed, all of which prompted one Metro board member to say she was “afraid” and would not ride the system alone.
The Metro Board, which includes L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, has since approved a surge of law enforcement and public safety officers to patrol transit vehicles.
