A light plane crashed into a perimeter fence while trying to land at Long Beach Airport on Thursday night.
The crash of the single-engine Beachcraft was reported around 9:07 p.m., according to Jake Heflin with the Long Beach Fire Department.
“A Beechcraft C23 Musketeer airplane was attempting to land and impacted the perimeter fence just prior to the approach end of Runway 25 Right,” said Allen Kenitzer with the Federal Aviation Administration.
The aircraft was resting on the fence when Long Beach Firefighters reached the pilot, according to a news release from the fire department.
The perimeter fence runs along Lakewood Boulevard, which remained closed between Wardlow Road and Conant Street.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, the release stated.
A motorist whose vehicle was struck by debris was also evaluated at the scene but was not transported, Heflin said.
The accident caused a small aviation fuel leak, which has since been controlled, the release stated.
The crash was under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
