A mudslide blocked part of Silverado Canyon Road Tuesday amid heavy downpours in the Santa Ana Mountains.
Work crews spent the morning hours clearing debris away from the road, but at about 2 p.m. a portion of the hillside gave way and mud flowed onto the roadway.
Much of the hillside above Silverado Canyon was burned during a 1,000 acre brush fire that swept through the area in 2014, leaving the area vulnerable to mudslides when storms hit.
A series of storms are expected to bring continued showers to Southern California as they push through the region over the next several days.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for parts of Orange County until 4 p.m.
The mudslide dangers don’t necessarily subside when the rain stops either, according to Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.
“Sometimes we have slides on sunny days after the rain … We just don’t know, it’s unpredictable,” Concialdi said.
