One person was killed and one person was arrested Friday after a shooting at a Valley Village hotel, officials said.
Around 6:30 a.m, police received several calls regarding an altercation and a gunshot wound victim in 12800 block of Riverside Drive, where Hotel Mariposa is located, the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and declared a 34-year-old man dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested, officials told KTLA Friday afternoon, without providing further details.
Although shots were fired, police say it does not appear the victim was hit by gunfire. The coroner’s office has yet to determine the cause of death.
Investigators say the victim didn’t know the suspect, but the person he was with did. Police earlier told KTLA that some sort of argument led to the shooting.
Guests say there was blood splattered in the elevator.
Stephanie Tennant, who is staying at the hotel, said she and her family were heading out when they saw police tape in front of elevator.
“My daughter looked out and saw feet and a sheet, like a body laying down, and the policeman had us go back up and take the stairs out,” she said. “We were told to stay away for a few hours.”
“It’s disturbing and upsetting … We want to know, is the hotel safe?” Tennant added.
Another guest at the scene said they heard a loud argument and a woman shouting, “Get off of him!”
Multiple people were seen getting detained at the scene, and several cars were seen getting towed as evidence.
No further details were immediately available.
