Schurr High School in Montebello reopened for in-person learning on Tuesday after being closed for several weeks due to a rat infestation that delayed the start of the school year on campus.

Instead of starting school on Aug. 16, thousands of students had to begin the new school year with independent virtual learning because the rats and their mess forced the closure of the school.

Officials said the source of the infestation was in the school’s C-Building.

While the school was shut down, sanitation crews and an industrial hygienist were on site getting rid of the rodents, cleaning up all the droppings and sanitizing to make sure it was safe for students, staff and faculty to return.
