More than 100 people turned out Tuesday for a city council meeting to debate the future of the Santa Monica Airport.

Opponents had been trying to shut the airport down for years citing safety, pollution and noise issues.

But supporters argued the airport was an important part of the community and contributed $250 million a year to the local economy.
