Authorities on Friday were attempting to identify a man accused of striking a woman who rebuffed him after he had followed her and her friends for blocks to a Riverside parking garage.
The incident began around 3 a.m. on March 12 when the man and his friend pursued the victim and her friends for about three blocks as they returned to their car, beginning in the 3600 block of Mission Inn Avenue, according to a Facebook post from the Riverside Police Department.
The victim, who wished to remain unidentified, said she and four friends had been celebrating spring break at a club.
Once they reached the parking structure, located at 3473 Orange St., the men began accosting the women, according to the victim.
“They just start immediately saying inappropriate, disrespectful, vulgar language to us,” she told KTLA. “We immediately let them know that that’s disrespectful, just to leave us alone.”
The women pleaded to be left alone, but the men persisted and began dancing around them, which the victim captured video of.
“At this point, I’m very frustrated and just like, ‘Can you please leave us alone? We don’t care, we don’t want anything to do with you guys,’ ” she recalled.
At first, the men walked away. Then one of the men turned, ran back, and hit the victim in the face from behind, breaking her orbital socket, according to Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback.
“Immediately, my eye swells up, my nose just is pouring blood,” the victim said. “All I could think about is, ‘I’ve gotta grab my phone, I don’t want to get it stolen.’”
The incident is being classified as a felony battery because of the extent of the injury, Railsback said.
The attacker is described as a Hispanic man who is between 21 and 24 years old, weighs 160 pounds and is about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a red-and-gray flannel shirt over a white T-shirt with dark jeans and a black hat.
