Authorities announced a reward Wednesday in their search for whoever shot and killed a man in his home in South Gate last year.

The $30,000 reward for information leading to those responsible for the killing of Hector Ascencio Sr. was announced during a 9:30 a.m. news conference held by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, South Gate police and County officials.

Investigators said Ascencio was fatally shot after he answered the front door of his home in the 2500 block of Glenwood Place on Sept. 16, 2023.

“There is a family here that forever will feel a loss. A deep tragic loss about what happened,” L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn said during the news conference.

“The victim’s adolescent granddaughter witnessed the murder and called 911,” the Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release announcing the reward.

Surveillance video captured at the time of the slaying showed a gray or silver four-door vehicle fleeing the scene.

“The Homicide Bureau is requesting the public’s assistance for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction for the person(s) responsible,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
