A Reseda man who was a nurse at a Sherman Oaks hospital was sentenced Thursday for having sexual contact with the corpse of an 82-year-old patient, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Alejandro Razo, 62, was discovered on Jan. 20, 2013, with his pants down while alone with a deceased woman who died of natural causes earlier in the day, the DA’s office stated.

Razo, who was arrested shortly after a fellow nurse found him, had been tasked with preparing the woman’s body for the mortuary, according to court testimony.

DNA evidence was used in securing Razo’s conviction, according to the prosecutor.

He was found guilty last week of sexual contact with human remains and was on Thursday sentenced by a Van Nuys Superior Court judge to two years in state prison that will be served in county jail.

Of that sentence, 180 days will be served under supervised release.

Razo worked at Sherman Oaks Hospital, where the offense occurred. He had a 20-year career at various health care facilities, according to the DA’s office.

In addition to serving jail time, Razo must attend sex offender meetings and get weekly psychological counseling during his supervised release, the DA’s office stated.

He also must stay away from Sherman Oaks Hospital.

Razo was taken into custody at the courthouse after his conviction and was being held at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, county inmate records showed.
