A man was dead following a police chase that ending in a shooting outside the front doors of a San Diego County casino Saturday night, KTLA sister station KSWB reported.
Police were called to a home in Escondido around 7:30 p.m. for an unspecified disturbance, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Williams. The suspect in the incident then led officers on a high-speed chase into Valley Center, Williams said.
The pursuit ended shortly after 8 p.m., when investigators believe one of the responding Escondido police officers saw the man with a weapon and opened fire outside the Valley View Casino.
Officials at the scene told KSWB that the suspect was armed, and witnesses reporting having to flee to avoid being hit by the suspect’s car. Bystanders said they dove for cover when they heard gunshots.
The shooting and subsequent investigation also caused the casino to close its doors to anyone not already inside the building, according to Boyd Long, vice president of the casino.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
Witnesses said they saw a Mini Cooper being chased by “several” police cars before hearing gunfire.
No further details have been released.
