A chase spanning two Southern California counties and a crash into an embankment ended with a foot pursuit on Sunday morning, according to authorities.
The chase began just after 1 a.m. when sheriff’s deputies from East Los Angeles pursued two males inside of a gray Hyundai. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit lasted about two hours as the Hyundai drove through numerous L.A. County cities at a “high rate of speed.”
Eventually the pursuit came to an end in Orange County, when the Hyundai careened and crashed down an embankment in the area of Alton Parkway and the 241 Freeway in Irvine.
Both men took off on foot after the crash and ran toward a business located near an apartment complex. There, authorities caught and detained the two men around 3 a.m.
The CHP didn’t say why the pursuit began, or what crimes the men were arrested on suspicion of. It’s unclear whether the Hyundai was stolen.
