Authorities are investigating after two men were shot and killed in El Sereno early Sunday morning.

Los Angeles police officers responded to the 4900 block of Templeton Street around 5:30 a.m. on reports of gunshots ringing out followed by a car speeding away. 

Arriving officers discovered two victims with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead. The victims were only identified as Hispanic men in their 30s, police said.

Neighbors in the area who heard the gunshots called 911. Some said they were awoken and witnessed the victims’ slain bodies lying on the street.

“Early in the morning, I heard four gunshots,” said witness Patty Kelly. “Gunshots are normal in this neighborhood but you don’t expect to come out and find two dead people in front of your house.”

“It’s pretty terrifying,” said neighbor Tony Parish. “My wife is expecting a baby so it’s not a fun thing to wake up to. It’s a pretty tragic thing that sadly happens often in Los Angeles, especially in this neighborhood. I’ve worked at L.A. County and unfortunately have seen a lot of this kind of trauma. But to see it on your block is still shocking. I haven’t fully processed it yet.”

Details remain limited and it’s unknown whether the shooting was gang-related. No suspect descriptions were provided as the shooting remains under investigation.
