One person was stabbed and two others were pistol-whipped when their vehicle was ambushed by six attackers in South Whittier, sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.

Four people, including three male victims and one female, were sitting in a vehicle outside a residence in the 11000 block of Painter Avenue when they were attacked, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was notified around 8:50 p.m. Monday of the stabbing and assault.

Two vehicles, containing six men, blocked the victim’s vehicle when the men got out and began their attack, Lt. Cynthia Chavez said.

One man broke the driver-side window of the victim’s vehicle and stabbed the driver, a second person pistol-whipped the passenger and a third person in the backseat, and a pistol was pointed at the fourth victim.

The driver, who suffered multiple stab wounds, then fled the scene, crashing into one of the attacker’s vehicles in the process.

The driver and a passenger were transported to an area hospital in stable condition. All of the victims were coopering with investigators, Chavez said.

The attackers were described as men in their 20s.
