A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metro Gold Line train Monday morning in Highland Park, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 11:13 a.m. in the 100 block of North Avenue 61 (map), the Los Angeles Fire Department said on Twitter. The location is less than 1/2 a mile northeast of the Highland Park Station.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the Fire Department said. No one on board the train was injured.

Homicide detectives responded to the location and were investigating the death as a possible suicide, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

It was not immediately clear which direction the train was traveling when the collision happened.

Train service was suspended between the South Pasadena and Southwest Museum stations. Bus shuttles were transporting passengers during the shutdown, according to a tweet from Metro.
