A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate transport bus struck and killed a pedestrian Monday morning, forcing the temporary closure of the northbound 5 Freeway through the Arleta area.

The crash occurred about 3:20 a.m. near Osborne Street, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson confirmed.

The bus driver was apparently the only person on the LASD vehicle at the time of the crash, a Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said.

No information about the victim has been released.

All northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were closed following the crash as officials conducted an investigation.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed traffic being diverted off the 5 Freeway at Osborne Street.

The carpool and one other lane had reopened as of 7:30 a.m. By 8 a.m., all of the lanes had reopened, the CHP tweeted.
