A two-car crash in Long Beach left a male pedestrian dead Monday night.

The crash in the 1000 block of Pacific Coast Highway occurred at about 5:50 p.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department. Aerial footage from Sky5 shows the crash scene is in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven and the nearby roadway.

Two vehicles collided with each other and a man on foot, police said. Two other vehicles also suffered minor damage, their owners told police.

That man, whose identity has not been released, was declared dead at the scene.

Police later said the crash involved a 2010 Nissan 350z and a 2017 Jeep Cherokee that turned left in front of the Nissan.

“The Nissan collided with the Jeep and then struck a traffic signal pole,” police said in a news release. “The force of the collision caused the Nissan to strike a pedestrian who was on the south sidewalk of Pacific Coast Highway, east of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.”

The Nissan driver, a man, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening and minor injuries, while the Jeep driver, a woman, was treated at the scene for pain and released.

While drug or alcohol use “does not appear to be a factor,” officials said “speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.”

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact Detective Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7355.
