Part of the Pacific Coast Highway was reopened early Friday after a water main break in Malibu caused a “significant hole” in the roadway, which was temporarily closed, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials.
The break occurred near PCH and Trancas Canyon Road (map) around 6:50 p.m., an Sheriff’s Department news release stated.
Initially there was a full closure of PCH, but one westbound lane was reopened by 10:40 p.m.
Two eastbound lanes were reopened before 4:30 a.m., according to Kerjon Lee with the L.A. County Waterworks Districts.
“These plans are contingent on there being no additional damage found to the roadway,” the Sheriff’s Department’s release stated.
Broad Beach Road was closed and reopened by 10:40 p.m.
Local homes were not damaged, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.
However, 100 customers were impacted overnight, including 50 units in a condominium complex and 50 single-family homes, Lee said.
