The public’s help was being sought Friday in locating a Las Vegas couple and their five children after the discovery of a dead 3-year-old  girl at the family’s home.

Police believed Jondrew Lachaux, 39, and Kellie Phillips, 38, may be headed for California.

Officers discovered the child’s body while investigating the circumstances surrounding a malnourished 4-month-old girl who was hospitalized in critical condition on April 1, according to a news release from the North Las Vegas Police Department.

The baby’s 17-year-old mother is the daughter of Phillips and Lachaux. She was arrested for one count of child abuse with substantial bodily harm in the case, the release stated.

The day after her arrest, officers served a search warrant at the family’s home in the 6600 block of Wood Thrush Place and discovered the child’s body, according to police. She appeared to have been dead for several weeks, the release stated.

The 3-year-old girl allegedly died after being left in the care of her 17-year-old sister. The older sister was also charged with an additional count of child abuse resulting in death in connection with her little sister’s death.

The teenager’s parents were being sought for questioning in the death of their daughter.

Police were also concerned for the welfare of the couple’s other five children who range in age from 1 to 9 years old.

It was believed the couple may be headed to the Los Angeles or Oakland areas.
