Authorities on Tuesday identified a 55-year old man who was killed when the motorized bicycle he was riding collided with a car driven by a suspected DUI driver in Huntington Beach.

Michael Bastien was killed about 6:30 p.m. Monday when he and the driver of a white 2013 Mercedes-Benz C250 were involved in a crash near the intersection of Bolsa Chica Street and Oahu Drive (map), according to police and coroner’s officials.

Officers arrived to find people tending to Bastien, who was critically injured.

Paramedics transported the Huntington Beach resident to UCI Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Officers located the Mercedes-Benz near the scene. The driver, a 51-year-old Huntington Beach resident, was interviewed and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

A preliminary investigation indicated both vehicles were heading southbound on Bolsa Chica when the bicycle was struck by the car, police said.

The department’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team was investigating the collision.
