Election season is in full swing, and a recall effort in the Orange Unified School District has led to a rash of campaign sign thefts.

School Board Trustees Rick Ledesma and Madison Miner could be ousted from their positions, and their efforts to campaign against the recall have been stymied by theft, they tell KTLA.

Miner said she installed trackers in some of her signs and was able to find them and activate the tracker devices from the sidewalk in front of the alleged thief’s home.

“You could hear the sound pretty easily from the sidewalk,” she told KTLA’s Chip Yost.

Those who support the recall claim they’re not stealing signs and instead blame Miner for claiming signs were stolen when they were actually removed legally, such as a property owner taking a down a sign someone put on their property.

“I think when you have incomplete information and you’re using the police force as your own private army, that gets dangerous,” said Darshan Smaaladen.

Miner said police told her to contact them in regards to stolen signs.
