A multivehicle crash that shut down the 605 Freeway in the Baldwin Park area on Monday morning killed one person, officials said.
The motorist was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to California Highway Patrol.
The collision involved at least three vehicles and caused a miles-long backup on all lanes just south of the 10 Freeway.
CHP announced a SigAlert around 5:30 a.m.
The northbound lanes reopened just before 6 a.m., Sky5 footage shows. The SigAlert for the southbound 605 Freeway was lifted about an hour later.
What appeared to be a Jeep apparently went over the barrier and crashed head-on into a sedan on the southbound lanes. Video shows the Jeep on its side as officers responded to the scene.
A third vehicle on the northbound side of the freeway also appeared to have been involved in the crash and was facing surface streets.
A heavily damaged car was also seen off the 605 south on Cloverleaf Drive.
Officials provided no further information.
