Two mountain lion sightings Halloween weekend in the Monrovia and Hollywood Hills areas that were captured on camera had some local residents on edge.
In the first incident, a “humongous” mountain lion could be seen apparently relaxing next to a home in the 2600 block of Hollyridge Drive in the Hollywood Hills on Halloween night, video showed.
“It was really scary,” witness Jaime Hindlin said. “I felt like I was in a zoo, except I was on my street and in a residential neighborhood where little kids are running around.”
The following day, surveillance cameras in the Monrovia area captured another mountain lion strutting down the street near several homes.
The grainy footage showed the animal appeared to have something in its mouth, and local resident Brian Morloch told KTLA he believed it was his neighbor’s cat.
“My opinion, they need to trap it and take it up in the hills somewhere before it gets somebody’s kid,” he said.
If anyone encounters a mountain lion in the wild, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife advises people not to run. Instead you should face the animal, make noises, and attempt to look bigger by waving your arms around and throwing rocks and other nearby objects.
