A 29-year-old Diamond Bar man died after his vehicle plunged off a cliff near Point Mugu and ended up in the Pacific Ocean, authorities said Monday.

The crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. Sunday on Pacific Coast Highway north of Deer Creek Road, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

The man was behind the wheel of a 2008 FJ Cruiser headed north on PCH when the vehicle abruptly veered to the left into southbound lanes, the release stated.

CHP officials said the Toyota ended up on the dirt shoulder before the vehicle went off an embankment and dropped into the surf below.

Authorities have not released the name of the man, who died at the scene. He was the vehicle’s lone occupant.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fatal crash. No additional information was immediately released.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Ventura Area CHP office at 805-662-2640.
